Here are some reasons…

- Covid forced growers all over the world to pull out crops as they didn’t have the staff to keep them alive and it takes months to catch up, Mother nature cannot be hurried!
- During the pandemic flowers became the turn to gift and cheer up purchase so demand out stripped supply for months.
- Not enough new crops could be started because there were too few mother plants.
- Global bad weather means that what flowers are in production are growing slow, remember we can’t hurry nature!
- Weddings are now happening in their millions around the world and the flower demand is huge as everyone wants their special day to look stunning.
- Raw costs have gone up on everything. Root plants to cardboard, paper to vases, its all costing more.
- Transport costs have quadrupled, drivers are at a premium and all delivery costs have risen.
and finally as an extra to covid, - Paperwork charges have risen because of Brexit, it can’t all be absorbed.
Hopefully, this gives an insight into flower prices. The cost of flowers may not increase in the supermarket as they are happy to lose money on them just to get you in the store to then make money on food items.
